🌱⚙️ EMSAGS invests in technical skills and sustainable employment opportunities in the Pamaka community

As part of the Capacity Building Program (March–September 2026), the EMSAGS Project organized the SMAW (Stick) Welding Training from June 15 to 24, 2026. The training was conducted at the PANSA Training Center in Snesi Kondre by PANSA Machine Shop N.V. The program is implemented in collaboration with and co-supported by Newmont Suriname, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening sustainable livelihoods and technical skills within the Pamaka community.

This training is a direct response to the needs identified by the Pamaka community during the community consultations conducted by the EMSAGS Project in 2025. These consultations highlighted the demand for vocational training opportunities that contribute to sustainable employment, entrepreneurship, and economic resilience.

A total of 12 participants, including one woman, successfully completed the training. Her participation demonstrates that technical vocational training is becoming increasingly accessible to a broader group within the community. Throughout the program, participants received both theoretical instruction and hands-on practical training. Topics included occupational safety, the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), welding equipment, materials, welding techniques, quality standards, and the identification and prevention of welding defects. By combining classroom instruction, demonstrations, and intensive practical exercises, participants developed the competencies required to perform welding activities in accordance with professional safety and quality standards. The training concluded with both theoretical and practical examinations, after which all participants received a certificate.

Through this initiative, the EMSAGS Project is investing not only in technical knowledge and craftsmanship, but also in sustainable employment, local entrepreneurship, and economic development. By equipping community members with practical skills that meet labour market demands, the project contributes to building a resilient and future-ready Pamaka community. 🌿
