EMSAGS Project Hands Over Educational and Communication Materials to the Ministry of Education

As part of its mission to raise awareness about the harmful effects of mercury use, the EMSAGS Project officially handed over educational and communication materials to the Subdirectorate for Development Services of the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture on April 22, 2025. This handover is a key component of the national distribution campaign aimed at integrating environmental awareness into the education system.

A central pillar of EMSAGS is the early involvement of young people in environmental issues. By educating children from an early age about the risks of mercury to human health and the environment, the project is investing in a more environmentally conscious generation.

The materials handed over include:

  • 570 USB drives containing one animated film, five videos, and eight radio programs in Dutch, Aukan, Saramaccan, Sranan Tongo, and Portuguese.
  • 570 informational booklets titled “Kwikgebruik en Goudwinning”.
  • Two educational posters – “Kwik in het milieu” en “Kwik N’e Prei”, with 570 copies of each.
  • 63 drawing tubes, intended for primary (GLO) and junior secondary (VOJ) schools in the interior, to hold and display the educational and communication materials.

Through these materials, EMSAGS aims to strengthen the education sector as a key partner in environmental education and contribute to a mercury-free future for Suriname.
